When I was in secondary school, a Malay classmate told me that this particular kuih is called Kuih Kodok is because its rough surface resembles a kodok (Malay for toad). This kuih is a common street food in Malaysia.
A few years ago, I have actually made this Kuih Kodok too. The recipe I had used at that time used egg, so the texture is more moist, while this recipe used grated coconut, so the kuih is more chewy. I actually like both!
